How can I turn a philosophical, logical or a mathematical idea in to a puzzle??

Hey everyone,

For everyone, who doesn’t know me, my name is Oussama, I am a 34 years old game developer and designer from Tunisia, I’m currently working on my second commercial video game,

A 2d Puzzler “You Are Blue” which I’ve already uploaded a deprecated version of about 2 years ago.

Why deprecated?

It did change, radically, from gameplay perspective, and what was in my head by the end of 2021 is verily very different now,

Anyway, before this will turn into a “Curriculum Vitae” summary let’s jump to what I think is the current state of the game, and what the game actually is,

Firstly, “You Are Blue” is a 2d puzzler that is played on a flat 2D grid, in which “You”, the player, you are “Blue”,

“Blue”, the main character that you play, by the way “Blue” is my favorite color, and using colors as names is something I cherish, and perhaps there’s a hidden meaning behind it, or perhaps not, it is for you to ascertain that,

Back to the game, “Blue” is a wanderer, who’s seeking answers and seeking to solve the riddles of life that will beget him, and in this case, those mysteries are puzzles, and just like most puzzles there’s a goal for every puzzle, which is to align or reorder something or many things

, and in this case, you are not aligning blue only to wherever placement he should be at, there’s a plethora of characters to actually control, everyone has somewhat unique properties, movement and whatnot,

And you’ll try to send everyone where he belongs, even “You”, sorry I mean “Blue”.

And this is not an easy task by the way, I’ll make sure of that, not that difficulty is what is important in a puzzle game, rather because solving easy puzzles isn’t dopaminergic enough.

Here’s a little clip for you, since pictures can summarize better than words, on the title page

Hence, “You Are Blue” is an endeavor of mine, a long-lasting quest in which I try to perhaps prove my worth as a good game designer, moreover, it is a way for me specifically to perhaps try to grasp certain truths about life? I don’t know,

what I know is that I can become obsessed by philosophical ideas, specially while reading Nietzsche or Dostoevsky, or understand how did the stoics think, back in the old era.

this may have no direct relation to the game, and it may not appear as a philosophical work-as directly as you, or I for that matter think it will be,

however, I will drain my thoughts all over it.

Anyway, what I want with “You Are Blue” is to reshape these Logical, mathematical and philosophical ideas into some kind of a puzzle,

how am I going to do that? I’ve made some interesting ones and I am still figuring out the rest, since there’s no Formula for such “Contemplative Puzzles”.

On the next Blog, I will tell you how and why I’ve came to these conclusions while contemplating the game, it’s not all innate ideas, I thank the giants that revolutionized these thoughts, maybe they’re not all well known, but they are my personal heroes.

Thanks for reading, and have a nice day.
