Hi, Fellow Game Developers,

Been seeing for a while people getting stuck before they can even start their ‘Gamedev’ journey.
So I thought it’s time to help, specially absolute beginners.

I’ll be talking about “Unity 3D” only for this talk, since i know nothing about the other engines.
By the way this is one way of doing “Gamedev”, it’s not the ultimate way, so let’s start :

So, what is “Unity 3D”, it’s a game engine, it’s the program that you’ll use to make your game, and probably many people knows this,
but not everyone knows how to use it properly.

The first step is to use it is, Go To This Link :

https://unity3d.com/get-unity/download

Download Unity Hub , it will be also useful to make a Unity Account, you will need it.
After Installing “Unity Hub”, Start it, then go to ‘Installs’,Click on ‘Install Editor’ , and choose what version of “Unity” you want,
but I do recommend installing the latest stable version (Recommended Version),
and i recommend “Checking” all the modules, except the languages if you don’t need them.

Now you’ve installed Unity, Great, What’s the next step?

Find a tutorial, a full “Make A Game In Unity” Tutorial in Youtube, I’ll link some Playlists, but if you want to choose by yourself,
make sure it’s for beginners.

So how would you use this tutorials and get the best out of them?

Easy, follow these steps :

First : You watch the full tutorial without doing anything, just concentrate and listen carefully.
Second : You watch again the tutorial while doing exactly what he’s doing.(Making the game with him simultaneously)
Third : You try to re-do the same game by yourself, you can always get back to the tutorial if you get stuck (it’s not cheating).

That’s exactly how you ‘LEARN’ from tutorials, you don’t have to start from scratch, you don’t have to have a coding background,
but it will help if you had any,
and it’s ok to make mistakes, we all do.

So anyway, congratulations, you’ve made your first game.

What’s next you may ask ?

this is actually a choice you have, you can either :

- Re-do other tutorials using the same process.
- Do some ‘Coding’ beginner tutorials if you don’t yet understand how ‘Coding’ works (logically).
- Use another engine if you don’t like “Unity 3D” or if it is too much for your “Potato Computer” .
- Start working on your own game if you’re a fast learner, but i suggest taking it easy.
- Explore more “Gamedev” & “Unity 3D”, Which what we will be talking about now.

So how do we explore ?

As cool as “Unity 3D” is, it is not the only thing you will need to make your game,
you will be needing some assets, and some tools,

so what kinda of assets game developers need:

2D Art, 3D Art/Models , Sound FX, Visual FX, Music, Environnements, UI, Fonts, Textures & Materials, Animations, etc..

if you don’t want to make your own assets, you can either get other people’s FREE assets ( With contribution )
or BUY them, from “Unity Asset Store”, or other websites, there’s a plenty ( I will name a few ) :

-Unity Asset Store : https://assetstore.unity.com
-Turbosquid : https://www.turbosquid.com
-Kenney : https://www.kenney.nl
-CGTrader : https://www.cgtrader.com
-Open Game Art : https://opengameart.org
-Game Art 2D : https://www.gameart2d.com
-Free Sound : https://freesound.org

But if you wanna make your own assets you gonna need to download these free softwares and learn how to use them ..
I’ll be linking only some free softwares, but you can search for other ones, or even paid ones, they’re usually better,
but as beginners, you won’t need them right away :

-Audacity ( Sound Design ) : https://www.audacityteam.org/
-Ocean Audio ( Sound Design ) : https://www.ocenaudio.com/
-Bosca Ceoil ( Music ) : https://boscaceoil.net
-Piskel App ( Pixel Art ) : https://www.piskelapp.com:
-Gimp ( 2D Art ) : https://www.gimp.org
-Blender (3D Modeling/3D Animation) : https://www.blender.org
-OBS Studio (Screen Record/Capture) : https://obsproject.com
-Openshot (Video Editing) : https://www.openshot.org

These are some tools you’ll probably need in your ‘Gamedev’ journey, but you’ll discover more in time..
Anyway, hope i’ve helped you as I can and made the journey easier for you, So before i finish i want you to know something,
the journey is hard, do not belittle it, if your dream is really making games then you must get skilled at it,

Work, Everyday ..
